Welcome to Puyo City
Puyo, with a growing population of over 20,000, is the provincial capital
of Pastaza. Until the early 1970s, the city had a real frontier' atmosphere
and was the most important town in the Oriente. Since the discovery of oil,
however, the frontier has been pushed deep into the jungle, and currently,
Lago Agrio vies for the claim of being Ecuador's most important Oriente town.
This city is an attractive town which makes a good stopping point if you need
a night's sleep before continuing into the Oriente or returning to the highlands.
